Privacy Policy

1. Who this policy covers

This Privacy Policy applies to the CaptureXRec desktop application (“CaptureXRec”, “the app”, “we”, “us”) for Windows, distributed through the Microsoft Store and other channels. It describes how the app handles information on your device. It does not cover any third-party website, service, or software you may use alongside CaptureXRec.

2. Information we collect

CaptureXRec is designed so that the content you create never needs to reach us. In normal use, we (the developer) collect no personal information at all. The data described below is created and held locally on your device:

• Captures and recordings — the screenshots (PNG) and screen recordings (MP4) you create, including any microphone audio, system audio, or webcam video you choose to include.
• Metadata you add — filenames, tags, and annotations you apply to your items.
• Extracted text (OCR) — text recognized from your captures to enable search. OCR is performed on your device using your operating system’s built-in vision capabilities; the images are not sent anywhere for processing.
• App settings — your preferences (theme, capture/recording defaults, widget layout, keyboard shortcuts, storage location), stored locally.

All of the above stays on your computer under your control. We have no access to it.

3. Information we do not collect

• We do not require or collect an account, email address, or sign-in.
• We do not collect usage analytics or telemetry by default.
• We do not collect your location.
• We do not upload, view, scan, or back up your captures to any server.
• We do not sell or share personal data with third parties — there is none to sell.
• We do not use advertising identifiers or third-party trackers.

4. Device permissions and why we need them

To capture your screen, CaptureXRec asks your operating system for certain permissions. These are used only to produce the captures and recordings you initiate, and the resulting media is written only to your local storage.

You can grant or revoke these permissions at any time in your operating system settings (Windows: Settings → Privacy & security). Revoking a permission disables the related feature but does not affect items you have already saved.

Automatic blurring of sensitive fields. CaptureXRec can automatically detect and blur sensitive on-screen fields (such as passwords and tokens) at capture time, and this protection is enabled by default. This detection runs entirely on your device. It is a best-effort safeguard and not a guarantee — always review a capture before sharing it.

5. Your responsibility for lawful use

CaptureXRec’s recording features — including system audio, microphone, and webcam capture — are provided for legitimate purposes such as tutorials, bug reports, demos, meeting notes, and personal documentation. They must not be used to violate anyone’s privacy, including recording other people, calls, meetings, or private communications without their knowledge or consent where required.

Many places require the consent of one or more parties before recording audio or video of a conversation, and additional rules can apply to recording copyrighted or confidential material. You are solely responsible for knowing and following the laws that apply to you and to anyone you record — including any wiretapping, eavesdropping, or consent requirements in your location — before using these features. CaptureXRec does not monitor, review, or control how you use its recording features. Any recording made in violation of applicable law is your responsibility alone, not ours.

6. Where your data is stored

Everything CaptureXRec creates is stored locally on your device, by default within a CaptureXRec storage folder in your user profile (you can change this location in Settings). Captures are saved as PNG images and recordings as MP4 (H.264 video / AAC audio) — open, non-proprietary formats you can open in other software without lock-in.

Because the data is local, its security also depends on your device: we recommend using disk encryption (BitLocker on Windows) and a strong account password.

7. Optional diagnostics (opt-in)

Telemetry is off by default. If a future version of CaptureXRec offers optional diagnostics or crash reporting, it will be strictly opt-in: it will be clearly labeled, disabled until you turn it on, and limited to non-content technical information (for example, anonymous crash details or app version). It will never include the contents of your captures or recordings. You can turn it off again at any time in Settings.

8. Sharing and third parties

CaptureXRec does not transmit your content to us or to any third party. When you use a “share,” “copy,” or “export” action, you are moving a file or its contents to a destination you choose (for example, the system clipboard, a folder, or another application). Once content leaves CaptureXRec through your own action, it is governed by the privacy practices of wherever you send it, not by this policy.

We do not use third-party advertising, analytics, or data brokers within the app.

9. How your data is protected

• Local by design — content does not travel over a network in normal use, removing an entire class of exposure.
• On-device processing — OCR and sensitive-field detection happen on your machine.
• No accounts — there are no credentials on our side to be breached.
• Open formats — your files remain accessible and portable.

No method of storage is perfectly secure, but keeping data local and off our servers substantially reduces risk.

10. Data retention and deletion

You control retention. Items remain in your library until you delete them. To remove content, delete items from within CaptureXRec or delete the files from your storage folder. Uninstalling the app removes the application; depending on your platform, your saved captures and recordings may remain in your storage folder until you delete them manually. Because we never receive your content, there is nothing for us to delete on your behalf.

11. Children’s privacy

CaptureXRec is a general-purpose productivity tool and is not directed at children. It does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. Because the app collects no personal data by default, there is no children’s data for us to access or process.

12. Your rights

Privacy laws such as the GDPR (EU/UK) and CCPA/CPRA (California) give you rights to access, correct, delete, and port your personal data. Because CaptureXRec stores your data locally and we hold none of it, you can exercise these rights directly: your content is already in your possession, and you can view, edit, export, or delete it at any time using the app or your file manager. 13. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect new features or legal requirements. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above and post the new version at this URL. Material changes will be highlighted. Your continued use of CaptureXRec after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
